My name is Delores (Dee) Carley. I have 2 sons and 2 awesome granddaughters, one of which is hunting and trapping and wants to help me in the taxidermy studio and with my PTA work.  She has harvested 3 deer, a bunch of pheasants and has skinned and fleshed a few beavers and coyotes. She is following in my footsteps.

My interest in taxidermy began in 1978 when friends needed a partner to skin, flesh and stretch furs taken on their trap line.  I purchased the same JW Elwood mail order course that many other old timers started with.  In 1983 I became licensed and quit my physical therapy aide/clerk job to open a taxidermy studio and sporting goods store with an indoor archery range.   I have owned and operated Allegheny Taxidermy for 31 years. My favorite season is archery season.  Although I don’t hunt much anymore (getting too old to climb up into those tree stands), I still love to fish. My favorite hobby is gardening.

I believe my first taxidermy convention was in Wilkes Barre.  It took a few years before I was confident enough to enter competition but I started winning ribbons with small mammals and I was hooked.  I haven’t missed a convention since then.

Dick Nussbaumer was my first mentor that encouraged me to get involved in competition and then the board of directors in 1993.  I was elected as the board secretary in 1994 and stayed in that position through 1999. In 1999 I became the membership secretary/ registration and have been doing this since then.

I have made some dear friends over the years and each year I look forward to greeting everyone, old friends and new members.  Each year I am amazed at the creativity and the excellent taxidermy that is entered in the competition.  I have learned so much from the seminars and met some awesome people that I admire and respect.  The PA Taxidermy Association is the best thing to happen to me and my taxidermy career.

I want to thank the PA Taxidermy Assoc. and the directors past and present for the education and for the association well managed over the years to become the great organization that it is. I also want to thank all members for the comradery and the chance to experience their talents through their artwork.
